Bob de Frece: A Taste of Orff, September 19th, 2017

On Tuesday September 19th at Belmead School new and experienced music teachers alike were treated to a wonderful overview of the Orff process.

Bob started with a brief but informative overview of who Carl Orff was and the underpinnings of the Orff process. Using one of the canon exercises from Orff Schulwerk: Music for Children Volume 1 Bob proceeded to guide the group through speech, body percussion, singing, moving and finally to the instruments. This all occurred with many opportunities for creativity and improvisation. Bob wrapped the session up with a nod to all of the professional development opportunities for Orff in the coming year. The experiences were led with Bob’s trademark enthusiasm and expertise and given the short relative timeframe of the workshop it was amazing to receive such a rich and informative experience. Having the opportunity to see such a skilled Orff teacher in action was a treat for both new and experienced music teachers. Bob’s excellent planning and execution made for a truly memorable evening.
