A Taste of Orff

This free workshop is presented by the Alberta Orff Chapter and Diane Shieron who is a former Levels instructor and mentor to many local area music teachers. In this session, you will have the opportunity to explore the Orff process through which children's musical skills and understandings are cultivated. |
Presenter Biography
Diane is a Sessional Instructor at the University of Alberta in the Department of Elementary Music Education where she teaches a music curriculum class for Elementary Education students. She was the Level I Orff Instructor at the U of A's Summer Sessions for over 20 years and taught Level I was at the University of Regina plus many Introductory Courses in Alberta and Saskatchewan.
Diane was a K - Gr 6 Music Specialist for Edmonton Public Schools and was involved in opening and setting up music programs in three brand new schools. She has presented many teacher workshops for Edmonton Public and Edmonton Catholic Schools in addition to presenting at MusiC Workshops across Western and Central Canada including Music for Children-Carl Orff Canada ( Nationally and locally in BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario), The Kodály Society, Early Childhood Education Conferences, Fine Arts Councils and Teacher Convention Boards.
Her students have performed at Canadian National ORFF Conferences,Local Orff Conferences, International ISME , Edmonton Public Schools" Night of Music" and many other Music Festivals and Concerts
Diane was an Instructor in Early Childhood Music Programs for Alberta College and has also been involved as a Kiwanis Music Festival Adjudicator.
In addition to being an Alumnus of the University of Alberta she also has the" ARCT Diploma in Piano Performance from the Royal Conservatory of Toronto". Her "Master's Certification" in Orff Schulwerk was obtained from Memphis State University and the University of Alberta where she studied and later taught with Jos Wuytack.
The University of Alberta Elementary Education Department awarded her with a "Faculty of Education Sessional Teaching Award" in recognition of her" Excellence in Performance of Teaching."
Diane continues to teach elementary music classes as a volunteer to keep current with today's students, presents at catchment PD days, and mentors new music teachers as they start their music teaching careers.
"Let's Sing and Dance Today" a collection of Orff Material by Diane was published in 1997. She has also contributed material to "An Orff Mosaic from Canada" and various other music publications.
