Cirque de Orff with Sue Harvie
with special guest Heather Nail
Participants will observe Sue Harvie as she teaches circus themed Orff activities to two alternating groups of children. It will culminate at the end of the day with a sharing session where the children perform a short piece based on Sue's theme: Cirque de Orff. The Winspear team will also have a short program ready for the alternate group when they are not working directly with Sue.
Presenter Biography - Sue Harvie
Sue Harvie is a K through 6 Music Specialist and Learning Leader for the Calgary Board of Education (CBE). She has completed her levels and post levels training in Orff-Schulwerk and holds her Master in Education (Elementary Music) from the University of Alberta. Sue has presented workshops across Canada and the U.S and teaches Level I at the University of Alberta. Her performing groups have performed for 5 Canadian National Orff Conferences, the Edmonton and Calgary Orchestras, and the annual ‘Orff the Wall’ production at Jack Singer Music Hall in Calgary. In 2014, Fun with Composers published, Sue’s F-U-N ‘n Games Galore, which will soon be followed by F-U-N ‘n Games S’More!
Presenter Biography - Heather Nail
Heather Nail has been an Orff Music Specialist for the Calgary Board of Education for 19 years. She holds Orff level three certification, and has completed her Master of Education degree, specializing in Elementary Music. Heather teaches the choral component of the Calgary Orff Chapter summer levels course, and in 2010 she was a semi-finalist in the Alberta Excellence in Teaching awards. She presents regularly at music conferences in Alberta, and in her spare time, Heather conducts the Westside Junior Children’s Choir and is the mother of two busy, musical daughters.
